What’s Gris-Gris?

(ɡreeˌɡree) is a talisman that is believed to protect the wearer from evil or bring luck. In the 1800s, so-called Gris-Gris doctors operated in Creole communities of Louisiana & the term was used interchangeably to mean both bewitch and in reference to a traditional amulet.
